Jay-Z's got one. Now Beyonce's got one too. What is it?

A university course, silly!

With Sociology students at Georgetown University in DC already studying a subject on Hova himself; Rutgers University in New Jersey has followed suit with "Politicizing Beyonce", examining American race, gender and sexual politics through the point of view of Beyonce's music videos and lyrics.

Come again?

"This isn't a course about Beyonce's political engagement or how many times she performed during President Obama's inauguration weekend," says Kevin Allred, the Rutgers doctoral student and lecturer who'll be administering the course.

"She certainly pushes boundaries. While other artists are simply releasing music, she's creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona."

Topics up for discussion during the semester include whether her half-naked body is either empowered or stereotypical.

The subject also looks at the impact the likes of Billie Holliday, Nina Simone and Lady Gaga have had on society.

Would you take "Politicizing Beyonce" if it was offered at your university?

University Professor Fired For Failing James Franco? Posted by Jason 20 December, 2011 - 10:36 AM

James Franco

(James Franco / FilmMagic)

So James Franco missed 12 out of 14 classes of 'Directing the Actor II' at NYU (probably because of his film roles).

His professor José Angel Santana gave Franco a D.

He got fired.

Unfair? The professor reckons that's the case.

So Santana's suing the university, also claiming that they've been catering to the actor's every whim for publicity and funds.

Santana tells the New York Post that "In my opinion, they've turned the NYU graduate film degree into swag for James Franco's purposes, a possession, something you can buy."

Although Franco is yet to respond, the NYU believes the claims are "ridiculous" and are disappointed that "a faculty member — former or otherwise — discuss any student's grade for the purpose of personal publicity."

Should the professor have been fired for failing Franco?
