Movie Review: Star Wars - The Clone Wars

Star Wars hits our screens again, this time in animated form, with "The Clone Wars". The film takes place between episodes 2 and 3 in the trilogy and deals with the oft mentioned but barely seen battle between the droid army and the Jedi lead clones. As the film begins, Anakin Skywalker and Obi Wan Kenobi are busy saving planets from invasion when Anakin is sent a padawan learner to instruct. While Anakin struggles to come to terms with his new responsibility, they are given a mission to save Jabba The Hutts son. Sith
Lords, intent on blaming the Jedi for the crime have kidnapped the young Hutt. Confused yet? Anyone under eight certainly will be, as the plot gets steadily bogged down in double crosses and politics.
That's the main problem with The Clone Wars, and it's the same problem all the new Star Wars films have faced: Trying to appeal to the children who will buy the toys while catering to the grown men who have all the toys still wrapped in plastic in near mint condition.
Clone Wars fails on both counts. The basic plot of Anakin gaining maturity (which is kinda redundant anyway as he will soon be the big scary guy who sounds like James Earl Jones..) is annoyingly childish, while even adults may struggle to keep up with Count Dookus nefarious schemes.
The battle scenes are impressive, and a good lightsaber duel is a good lightsaber duel, but is this as the tag line says, Star Wars as you have never seen it before? If it is I hope we never see it like this again. And as for the claim that it is the first fully animated Star Wars film? Surely Ep. 2 Attack of the Clones comes pretty close?

Why ruin a completely amazing movie series with this piece of crap? I totally agree with you Stav. Was very disappointed.
