Australian movie-making legend Baz Luhrmann is probably a nursing a sore head of a different kind this Christmas day, after injuring himself on the job yesterday.

The Strictly Ballroom and Moulin Rouge Director copped a knock to the head on the set of 1920's period movie The Great Gatsby, which is being shot in Sydney and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan.

Gatsby co-producer Anton Monsted told The Sydney Morning Herald that due to “a quite a cramped set," Baz "was ducking under the crane and struck his head on the weights on the end of the camera crane. He split open his head and we had to get the doctor.''

The director had to get three stitches,while the rest of the crew got to knock off early for the holidays. Good result for some!
