Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott took time out from the 2010 election campaign and spoke to Kyle and Jackie O.

No time was wasted as the radio duo pressed Abbott over his views on gay marriage.

Just like Prime Minister Julia Gillard, marriage in his view is always between a man and a woman.

A self-declared "old fashioned" type, Abbott also admitted that unlike US President Barack Obama, he had no idea who Jay-Z was. Abbott was however more familiar with the sounds of the Beach Boys, The Beatles and Elvis Presley.

  To not legalise Gay marriage is ridiculous!
  I'm in year 9 and my friends and i all think the government only approving the marrige between a man and a woman is horrible! They say marriagen should be with a man and a women.
  Homosexuals are men and women are they not?
  Who are Tony Abbott and Julia Gilard to decide who can and cannot become Husband and Wife, Wife and Wife, Husband and Husband?
  Who does it affect negitavely? children in the community? I've grown up with a Gay uncle which has helped me to be open with my sexuality, i think that if society accepted the marriage of homosexuals than less teenagers would feel ashamed of the way they are born. Bisexual, Homosexual, Heterosexual, Whats the difference?

  so wait, he supports gay peoples love for eachother, but he still won't allow them to get married? wow. that makes no sense what so ever. i wonder how he would feel if he was told that he couldn't marry the person he loved because of their gender. thats so wrong on so many levels. love is love, you can't control who you fall in love with, nor what gender they are. i hate how this country is so judgemental. i'm not gay, but many of my friends are. if a man and a woman were to walk down the street holding hands, they wouldn't be stared down or ridiculed , but if a gay/lesbian couple were to do so, they would be automatically judged? i just don't agree with it.

  I'm sick of our government's homophobic views. Our society accepts gays/lesbians, so why can't they? Our politicians say they have no problems with gay couples, but when they wish to marry one another, suddenly it's a big issue? Marriage is about making a commitment to the person you love, so how is their making a promise to one another hurting you? How is it even EFFECTING you? All they are asking is to be allowed the right to marry the love of their life, its not a big ask! I wish they could just get past this old fashioned view of theirs, and start "moving forward"
