Irish Dave's Sex and the City Rules
Hamish & Andy 8 August, 2008 - 4:26 PM
Today Irish Dave presented his new 'Sex and the City Rule' which details how guys can identify what type of girlfriend a girl you are chatting up will be like, with one simple question.
Check out what Dave has to say below and tell us what you think. Ladies, is Dave right?Do you have any of your own additions? Would you every try this technique?
Irish Dave's Sex and the City Rules:
We're basically simple Mountain folk us men, we're uncomplicated and easy to please.
But a while ago I came to a very disturbing realisation, that this simplicity and lack of sophistication was our undoing, particularly when it came to engaging with the ladies in the area of dating.
It is the realisation that women are, in fact, much smarter than we are.
The uncanny ability they have to make you tell them something you had no intention of revealing is amazing - How do they do it?
We decided to take, as our guiding principle, the work of the 6th century BC Chinese military philosopher, Sun Tzu and his treatise called "The Art of War" - Its manta is - know thine enemy.
So a session of the Star Chamber was called to try and identify the secret powers women possess, and once identified, to use these same powers - but this time for good, rather than evil.
We established that the main technique women used to get us to tell them something we were trying not to reveal was....
The Dark Art of Subterfuge:
Women use this dark art to ask what appears to be a direct question but in fact they mean something completely different.
We all agreed that this technique is total genius and we should replicate it immediately!
But we had to think of a universal topic that every girl will want to talk about and not for a second think we have an ulterior motive.
- There is of course only one such topic - The "Sex and the City Rule" was born
It was agreed that before you ask a girl out you had to adhere to the "Sex and the City Rule" to ensure you were not victim of what Sun Tzu calls in Chapter 6 - A confusion between Illusion and Reality
Here is the question:
- "If you were Carrie Bradshaw, who would you have ended up with?"
The question achieves a number of things:
- The Girl likes talking about the subject and relaxes, and she is thus completely honest in her answer
- She will reveal in her answer, her own personality type and you can then identify what she would be like as a girlfriend.
- Thankfully there are only 3 possible responses to the question so you don't need an intimate knowledge of the show to be able decipher the meaning of her answer.
Bullet proofing:
- If she didn't watch the show then she has probably been in the same relationship since about 1997, she is therefore almost certainly married.
The potential answers and what it reveals:
- Mr Big - She is most likely to be a girly girl, loves shoes and clothes but is probably terrible with money.
- Aiden - she is a pretty cool & down to earth chick she doesn't mind having a beer, her friends are probably pretty cool as well - she is excellent "girlfriend material".
- Burger - she is right into the arts and creative type stuff, you will be going to lots of plays and "happenings" - you probably need to move to Melbourne.
- Any other answers - you're in real trouble as I don't know any of the other characters.

First I love it and i agree with everything.... except the type of woman who would go for Mr. Big. I would have to say that although I am probably the biggest Aiden fan out there I understand where the Mr. Big lovers are coming from. This woman is not really a girly girl but a closet romantic. She wants to be swept off her feet and probably believes that if someone is "The One" she'll be with him in the end (no matter how many hearts she breaks before she gets there). I would stay away from her because if you aren't her Mr. Big, you are pretty much screwed.

I really love the insight into the minds of the (still) less complex sex. I hope you guys are taking his advice, they are great ones. I can't wait for the next one! -

I think Irish Dave is missing Aleksander Petrovsky. He's Russian and pretentious and temperamental and well, foreign (he speaks fluent French as well as Russian). He is also self centred, all in the name of "the arts".
This might say that a girl who was into him wants to fancy herself as a lady of leisure, who prides herself on being with the snooty art crowd.
Hrrm.By the way, loving Dave's contributions. Very amusing!
I think this is a brilliant rule. I know that simple sex and the city question would get all the girls I know talking. Great work.http://www.chunkzoflife.blogspot.com

Boys boys, you've got it really wrong with this one. Usually you're spot on, but now you've totally lost ALL credibility!! My sneaky sneaky boyfriend just used this one on me. I chose big. As did Carrie, because they have an amazing passionate relationship, she clearly loves him to bits because he's broken her heart like 40 times!! As for Aiden, yea sure, he's totally lovely, and they lasted for a while. But after a while he's a bit bla. He's got nothing on Big. there's no passion, no nothing,
I choose Big ALL THE WAY!!
ANd also, anything that has anything to do with Carrie is about shoes!! No matter what guy she's with.

its not totally bullet proof because I refused to go and see sex and the city and have even less of an idea of what its about than most guys have so if some one asked me "If you were Carrie Bradshaw, who would you have ended up with?" I would have said "who is Carrie Bradshaw?" and been more worried that a guy was into these sorts of soppy movies! (and I ahvent been in a relationship since 1997 as was suggested)

Ummm, I have never seen this show and I'm young and unmarried. I just don't watch TV. I read, volunteer, and try to have my own experiences rather than watching other people's lives on TV. I think you should seriously consider that another option under "If she didn't watch the show" could be that she's a well-rounded, interesting girl who might be a great catch!

taking up the challenge of understanding a woman - impressive. We don't usually understand ourselves. In my opinion, the S & TC Rules are pretty spot on. Though I'd add that if she choose Mr Big, she's too busy looking for 'the one', the fireworks and doves thing, that she might overlook something special right in front of her.
