1.  On of the first things they teach you in Tae Kwon Do is that the elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to an attacker to use it, do! 

2.  If a robber asks for your wallet or bag, don't hand it to him - throw it away from you! Chances are that he is more interested in your money than you and he'll go for that. Then run in the other direction!

3.  If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back taillights, stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4.  Women have a tendency to get into their cars and sit there (maybe checking their handbag or texting) - don't do this! A predator will be watching you and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head and tell you where to go. As soon as you get into your car, lock the doors and leave.  If you have someone in your car with a gun to your head, do not drive off! Instead start the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your airbag will save you. If the person is in the back seat, they will get the worst of it. As soon as the car crashes, get out and run.

5.  A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot:
- be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor and in the back seat
- if you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Women have been killed after getting pulled into a van while getting into their cars.
- always look into the car parked on the driver side of your car. If there is a male is sitting alone, go and get someone to walk you back.

It is better to be paranoid than dead.

6.  Always take the elevator instead of the stairs. Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot.

7.  If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, run! The predator will only hit a running target 4 out of 100 times. Run in a zig zag pattern!

8.  As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic - STOP THIS. Ted Bundy the serial killer was a good-looking, well educated man, who always played on the sympathy of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane or a limp and often asked 'for help' into his vehicle which is when he abducted his next victim.

9.  Think about how your appearance can make you a target. A woman with a ponytail or plait is easier to grab onto, just as long hair is easier to hold onto. If you feel uncomfortable walking down the street, maybe tie your hair in a bun. Also avoid chatting on your phone or listing to an iPod as it lessens your concentration on what is happening around you.

10. A stunt that is used by abductors, this is not an old wives tale…
A woman heard a crying baby on her porch and called the police because it was late and this was unusual. The police told her to NOT open the door and they'd send someone over. It turns out a rapist had a baby's cry recorded and used it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. Moral of this story - if something seems usual, it probably is.
